Volunteer Opportunities
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Ecology Department always needs volunteers.
- We always need help to maintain the beauty and integrity of the grounds through gardening and landcare
- efforts. We always need an extra hand at weeding, planting, thinning perennials, transplanting, and cleaning gardens.
- Projects we need help with also include mulching our trees. To help conserve the health of our trees, we need to mulch more trees around the landscaped area of our property.
- Our new demonstration Heirloom Vegetable Garden always needs your help. Between planting, weeding, tying, staking and harvesting the work is never done.
- The Ecology Center's Library and Reading room is constantly adding to its collection. These books, magazines, CDs and DVDs need to be catalogged and shelved. Help is needed in our growing library.
- We have an Ecology Bulletin Board in the main building near the dining room. This bulletin board provides an opportunity to educate visitors about important environmental issues affecting all of us and how Mercy Center is tackling the issue. If you're interested in creating monthly or bi-monthly displays for the bulletin board, we could use your help!
- In the summer, we put vases of fresh flowers on all the tables in the dining room. If you're interested in helping us harvest flowers around our property and arrange them for retreatants and other summer guests, please let us know.
if you're interested in volunteering for the Ecology Program, please sign up here.
Mercy Center's Ecology Volunteers go on the road...

Last year at our Dancing by the Sea gala, a guest won 200 daffodil bulbs planted by the Ecology Volunteers. The winner donated the item to her local parish, St. Augustine Church in South Glastonbury. As you can see, it was a fun outing for the volunteers.
INTERNSHIPS/COMMUNITY SERVICE
- We currently work with youth helping them complete required community service hours.
- We provide high school and college students with internship opportunities. Please contact Sherill Baldwin at sherill@mercybythesea.org for more information about intership opportunities.
